This Year the Stampede Family, again partnered with the Salvation Army and adopted a family for Christmas. Each year the needs of the community are met through the generosity of people willing to help those less fortunate. Often we feel as though we need to reach out to other countries to help the impoverished yet there are several families who are struggling to survive amidst the poverty and despair of Buffalo's poorest neighborhoods. The Stampede team saw the need and answered the call. This year two small children, twin brother and sister will know that God has not forgotten them.
The Stampede team participated by having jeans days to raise funds as well as other small contests. The money raised helped us to fill the basic needs of this family as well as go above and beyond, so that Christmas morning these children will have a memory that will last forever. Although, this year has been a challenge for all of us due to economic times, many toys, clothes, books and food were collected. Even a Christmas tree with all the trimmings was provided to this family.
I think it is often forgotten in the hustle and bustle of our busy lives just how truly blessed each of us are. The greatest way to show thanks is to provide for those who cannot provide for themselves. This experience has enriched all the lives of the people who participated this year here at Stampede. What we really gave to this family were moments of joy during the holiday season. These children will grow old and forget the toys they received, but they will always remember this Christmas when they were overwhelmed with gifts and happiness in a time of darkness. You really can’t put a price on that. I know for me this experience epitomized the true meaning of Christmas. "How does God's love abide in anyone who has the world's goods and sees his brother or sister in need and yet refuses to help? Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action" John 3: 17-18. The Stampede Team took action and this will be one experience this family won’t soon forget.
